Flaming Canyon City

During the Wyld Storm, the dragon Nokurrori established this megacity on the mountain range that was the border of Wyoming and Utah. Nokurrori took in hundreds of human survivors to take shelter here, teaching them how to build structures that dampen the Wild Magic Storm that raged around the world. The city walls wind their way along the mountainside, with the majority of the city resting upon a large platform.

The city breathed a collective sigh of relief after finishing the walls. The people celebrated for a week in honor of Nokurrori and the hard-working people who saved them all. The party ended when a tremor put their work to the test. Everything shook, but the city stayed intact overall. However, the quake was just one symptom of the Wild Storm acting up. The magic also enchanted the water of the river below the city, causing it to burst into flames.

Magical and mundane firefighting methods prevented an utter disaster, but a solution to the water supply issue was imperative. Exploratory drones discovered that the river was, in fact, still made of water. Water harvested from beneath the flames could be disenchanted and used normally. This discovery led to the creation of an anti-magic water filtration system. The city over Flaming Gorge Reservoir was officially renamed Flaming Canyon City one year later.

The Fulcrum

The zone adjacent to the mountainside contains the industrial and agricultural sectors. This area hosts farming and mining operations, as well as manufacturing, distribution, and construction facilities. Thus, jobs are dominated by Materials Management Corp. and Geoponics Biotechnology. The mines primarily produce coal, crystals, and metal ores. The district earned the nickname “the Crumbs” from the dirt and debris constantly covering the streets, buildings, and people.

Fulcrum is on constant watch for magically altered animals threatening their lives or products. Advancing technology, corporate greed, and high-risk work make the worker turnover rate very high. Several freight trains run into the center of Overwatch to bring goods directly to the seat of power in the city.

Bricktown

The middle district is a tightly packed residential area, including multiple neighborhoods, schools, entertainment, and food services. The neighborhoods closest to the commercial sector have the oldest buildings and are dominated by apartment buildings, known collectively as Bricktown. The Ring Train, an elevated monorail, runs around Bricktown as a means of inexpensive travel for commuters.

The closer one gets to the corporate spires of Overwatch, the newer the buildings get and the higher the cost. Wealthy people enjoy these larger lots known as the Gold Ring.

Overwatch

The commercial sector forms a central circle within Flaming Canyon. Home to several markets, corporate offices, universities, and local government buildings. Zone design maintains a strict grid system, allowing traffic to move easily from the outer ring to the mountain; any other direction is a lower priority. The less savory elements of the city call this zone Overshadow, due to the high towers often obscured by low clouds.

Overwatch hosts the corporate headquarters of New World Dynamics, the dominant employer of Flaming Canyon. NWD provides electricity to the world through various means, including harnessing the local enchanted water, known as Wyldfire.
